Recorded as Proof He Once Thought I Was Funny

“If April showers bring May flowers, what do Mayflowers bring?”

He look at me, deep in thought.

“Uh… I don’t know.

“Pilgrims.”

He lifted an eyebrow.

“What?”

I watched the wheels turn. I watched him try to make sense of what I just said. He started to argue. I let him go on for a minute before I cut in.

“What boat did the Pilgrims come over on?”

He stopped talking. A smirk spread across his face.

“The Mayflower. You’re funny.”

He then proceeded to talk and talk and talk about how we blew his mind and what a joke and it’s so funny and PILGRIMS! and MAY FLOWERS BUT MAYFLOWERS! and OMG! JOKES! HA!

May Flowers... GET IT?!

Forever and ever in May, I will remember the first time my oldest son heard that joke—and thought I was the funniest person ever.

  1. OMG — totally pulling that one on daughter-in-law’s young nephew. He’s the perfect age to fully appreciate it. Will generate many coolness points for me (his “Grandma Moose”)
